"IMCK desperately needs this foundation. The original vision of IMCK as a teaching institution bringing Christian witness and quality health care to the people of Congo has evolved, but is just as needed today as it ever was. Unfortunately, for many years the institution has been struggling to survive and has had to compromise its vision. This foundation will help IMCK have a solid support for operational costs so it can concentrate its efforts on fulfilling and expanding on the vision for which it was created."
--Dr. Larry Sthreshley
Chairman, IMCK Board

NAMED ENDOWMENT FUNDS

Families, organizations, groups or individuals may wish to establish a named fund within the IMCK Endowment, to be named in honor of a particular family, person or other entity. In doing so, they may specify a target fund size to be reached before payouts begin and a target timeframe for collecting that amount.  Click HERE to print and fill out the form for setting up such a Named Fund.  Click HERE for instructions on how to donate to such a Named Fund.  Click on the following address to send an email to Friends of IMCK with questions or comments: FriendsofIMCK@gmail.com.

  • WHY AN ENDOWMENT FUND?
  • FRIENDS OF IMCK - VOLUNTEER
  • FRIENDS OF IMCK - DOCUMENTS

For years, IMCK, like many such needy non-profits serving the poor, has appealed for funds to meet immediate and urgent needs -- feeding hungry children, healing sick and injured bodies, teaching lifegiving skills, supporting the poor and vulnerable. You know. You have seen it.

But that has led to dependence on giving each year for the needs of that year. When resources go down, institutions like IMCK suffer. As do their clients and patients.

In America, a hospital and school and like IMCK, founded over 50 years ago, would long since have set up a "living" or Permanent Endowment to create some degree of financial independence and security. One private grammar school/high school that we know of, founded at the same time as IMCK, has built up an endowment of $6 million. Why not a hospital and nursing school in Congo?

As donations have gone down in this economic down-turn, IMCK's dependence on current donations for current needs has come to haunt it. IMCK operates at an annual deficit of $25,000 or more and needs the stability of a predictable income in order to budget properly and exercise prudent management restraints and controls over spending. Neither receipts from local fees in an impoverished country nor the donations from abroad that go increasingly to special projects where there is "measurable return" can fill need the need for routine operating funds.

There is no time like the present ot begin building a permanent endowment fund.

An organization called FRIENDS OF IMCK has been formed to raise funds for this fund and has set an initial goal of $500,000. In order to qualify donors for tax write-offs, donations are being made through the Medical Benevolence Foundation and invested in U.S. based securities designed for balanced growth.

The FRIENDS OF IMCK has a big job -- to raise $2 MILLION! In order to do that, we need lots of help.  We need people who can help with such things as:

  • Public Information Campaigns,
  • Design & Write Brochures ,
  • Develop & Maintain Web Sites,
  • Write Grant Proposals,
  • Make Public Presentations,
  • Secure/Arrange Speakers ,
  • Personally Contact Donors,
  • Serve on the Board of Directors ,
  • Clerical or any Other Work,
  • Spread the Message by Word of Mouth,
  • Just Cheerleading for Now, or
  • Please Contact Me to Discuss.

If you think you could help in even the smallest way, WE WANT YOU! PLEASE JOIN US!  To join, note the things you can help with on the volunteer list above and then click here to send an email to us with your contact and volunteer information.  If you are not sure you can do much to help but just want to let us know that you are rooting for us, you can just indicate one of the last two items (cheerleading or "contact me") in the email.  We will keep you informed with the IMCK monthly electronic newsletter as long as you want to receive it.

There are nine items here for a church to use in publicising the campaign to raise over $2 million for the IMCK Endowment by getting a ONE DOLLAR donation from each and every member of every Presbyterian Church in North America.
